Empty picture
Alexandre Roccoli & Cie A Short Term Effect
2014 Danse contemporaine
For this creation, Alexandre Roccoli returned to his family roots. His father was a coal miner, and his body is the bearer of know-how, marked by the repetitiveness of movement.
Empty Picture ‘s challenge was to pass on this memory of the worker’s gesture, and turn it into a choreography akin to a liberating trance. Alexandre Roccoli conducted a series of interviews with miners and workers, then worked with krump dancers to sediment this working-class gesture in the dancers’ bodies. The dancers repeat transmitted movements, make shifts and metamorphoses, and become machines traversing history between past and present.
