Le point zéro – ensemble 4

Anna Vanneau & La Zampa

2026 Documentary and choreographic fiction

Between 1829 and 1872, farmers in the Bethmale valley in the Pyrenees opposed restrictive new forestry laws and rose up against the authorities, forest rangers and large landowners.

Unarmed, the local people carry out night actions, sabotage and acts of resistance. Through carnivalesque staging, the inhabitants created a climate of revolt that prompted the authorities to adopt amnesty measures and relax the laws of the French administration.

Today, anchored in this same valley, the Ariège folk dance association La Bethmalaise has been perpetuating the richness of its know-how for almost 35 years, offering intergenerational traditional dance shows and concerts. The meeting with this group of dancers was a determining factor in the staging and dramaturgy of this film, which hypothesizes a symbolic continuity between the peasant revolt and contemporary folk dances, carriers of a memory linking past and present.
