The night’s side is unfortunate: obscenus, they’ll say – Jean-Toussaint Desanti

That which repels sight and yet shows itself, that which must remain secret and yet expresses itself. Does night really operate on us, or do we perceive in it that blinding part of ourselves? Does it absorb us, or do we see in it the possibility of spreading out? Is it obscene? Does it denote the unity of concealment and unveiling? Or are we, rather, that black spot that worries the gaze? We are night. We are that vibration, that murky zone. We are that imperious desire that it never stop. We are that body impatient for action, that quantity of force whose charge we sense. That nocturnal space of the “imageless”.
We are what makes night in a world numbed by light. We are this massive body, this labile body, this wild body. We are this tense space, which we pierce to see inside. We are this shadow that throws itself at our feet. We are the matter that stretches, always seeking to include further. We are what stretches, opens.
Neither quite dead, nor quite alive, we are dismantling and recomposing. We are an invitation, a summons to “laissez-faire”. We are that which finally collapses. We are that which meditates, offends and drives the gaze elsewhere. An indiscreet abundance, neither banal nor reassuring. We are refuge, rest, rocking.
We are resonance, and its multiple modes of existence. We are silence, breathing. We are echo, crackling, shaking. We are what deforms, distends, disjoins. We are everything that appears anew. We are the end, and what it completes is incompletion itself. We are this movement.
